Residential Caretaker - St Johns Wood United Synagogue

Salary: Dependent upon experience 

Hours: 40 per week, including evenings and weekends

Reporting to the Synagogue Administrator, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the security, health and safety and maintenance of the Synagogue building and grounds. This includes school areas, administrative offices, reception halls, kitchens and WC areas and outside the Synagogue keeping the grounds tidy and clean at all times.

Your main duties will include:

Ensuring that the Synagogue complex is kept secure at all times and that the alarms are properly set

Ensuring that the building, grounds, and landscape areas of the Synagogue are tidy, cleaned & properly maintained, which includes additional assistance from cleaners

Liaising with the Synagogue Administrator in maintaining inventories of all equipment & stock in the Synagogue complex

Supervising and arranging the set-up & clean-up for daily events in & around the building & to be contactable in emergencies during such events.

Carrying out minor & emergency repairs/defects within the Synagogue complex


The successful candidate will be expected to have a well-developed sense of responsibility and be able to work well as a member of the Synagogue Team.

You will also be expected to be well organised and have good customer care skills. In addition, the successful candidate will need to be self-motivated and adaptable.

Previous cleaning and general maintenance experience are also essential for this role.
