On the centenary of Armistice Day, over 350 people gathered in Kinloss United Synagogue in honour of the soldiers and civilians who were killed for their country.

Guest of Honour, Madam Deputy Mayoress, Councillor Caroline Stock addressed guests and spoke of the importance of remembrance and honor as a communal value. Rabbi Reuben Livingstone, Senior Jewish Chaplain to the Armed Forces led the prayer for the Armed Forces. Pupils from the Sacks Morasha JPS Choir sang Esah Einai (Psalm 121) as well as Oseh Shalom at the close of the ceremony, followed by a united rendition of the national anthem and collective Kaddish prayer.

Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence, Senior Rabbi of Finchley United Synagogue, said: “The ceremony was a fitting commemoration to the many service men and women who paid the ultimate price. It was also a tribute to those men and women who have contributed to the defence of our realm and those who continue to do so to protect British values here and overseas.

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green Jacques Weisser, Executive Director of AJEX (the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women), also attended the ceremony.
