Salary circa: £20,000-£23,000 pa depending on experience, pro rata if working part time

The Role

Reporting to the Head Caretaker, the role is part of the team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the Synagogue complex, including cleaning, maintenance, room preparation and deliveries. Depending on requirements, the post holder will work during evenings and weekends, overseeing and ensuring the smooth running of all aspects of the building’s amenities involving security, Health & Safety, all equipment for optimum performance.

The appointee will be expected to understand the operations of the Synagogue and to support the professional team to deliver a high-quality service that meets the expectations of the Synagogue’s members.

Additional duties

  • Carry out, when instructed by the Head Caretaker, minor and emergency repairs within the complex.

  • Ensure the premises is appropriately prepared as directed.

  • Provide all reasonable support and assistance to members, visitors, and staff.

  • Assist the Head Caretaker with opening and closing the complex, including alarming the premises when required, act as security at evenings and weekends when necessary, and ensure the complex is kept safe and secure at all times.

  • Report all emergency and security matters immediately to the Head Caretaker or Chief Operations Officer and record any issues appropriately.

The successful candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility and be able to work as part of the Synagogue team. You will also be organised, have a positive and calm disposition and be good with people. The post-holder will need to be motivated and adaptable. Previous experience in general maintenance and cleaning is essential.
