This past Shabbat, over 55 Year 5 pupils from Rosh Pinah had an exciting Shabbaton, organised together with Tribe. Held at the Linconsfields centre and headed by Tribe Coordinator, Sharon Radley, the Shabbaton was a great opportunity for the pupils to experience an uplifting Shabbat and get to know Tribe better.

The Shabbaton started with the lighting of the Chanukah candles, followed by a lovely Friday night Shabbat service. Before dinner, pupils battled it out against each other playing Tribe’s famous Mitzvah Board Game, as well as an ‘Introduction to Shabbat’ game where pupils had to guess different aspects of Shabbat that were written on post-it notes stuck to their foreheads.

The next morning, the pupils participated in a beautiful Shabbat morning service, followed by acting out scenes from The Parashah, but with a difference. There was a delicious Kiddush followed by games including the legendry ‘shlubadub’. During lunch there was a fantastic atmosphere with pupils dancing and singing Jewish songs at the top of their voices.

After lunch, a thought provoking game was played. The madrichim (leaders) acted out five children who had gone down differing Jewish paths. This opened up a discussion with the children as to ‘who is the best Jew?’ Other games were also played until the close of Shabbat, when the pupils took part in a moving and inspiring Havdallah service.

Sharon Radley quotes, “It was great getting to know the Rosh Pinah children who all had a fabulous time, not much sleep and wonderful memories to take home with them. We look forward to seeing them at future Tribe events.”
