As A-Level exams got started this week, over 800 School Leavers’ Packs were distributed to members of Tribe, the youth arm of the United Synagogue. Whether school leavers are going to university, taking a gap year in Israel or any other post school venture, the packs aim to give Tribe members a great start on this new stage in life.
This year’s pack includes a variety of handy items for any school leaver such as a laundry bag, a pack of cards, bottle opener, water bottle and the new Tribe bencher. It also contains contact details for Tribe Campus Ambassadors, University Jewish Chaplains and a special message from Chief Rabbi Mirvis, encouraging Tribe members to “achieve their potential and make a positive impact on the world”.
Tribe member, Adam Ellis, who received a pack this week said: “It’s great to know that Tribe are there to support me at every stage of life”.
Tribe Central Rabbi, Yisroel Binstock said, “We hope that these packs will help our members in the next stage of their lives and that they will help them remain connected to and engaged with their Judaism. We are really excited that so many of our Tribe members are starting this new exciting chapter in their lives and we wish them all the very best.”
These packs are just one of the many things that Tribe does for its members after leaving school.
Tribe Israel runs a variety of programmes for those taking a Gap Year in Israel before university. These include regular socials as well as Tribe Leadership in Israel (TILT), where participants learn essential leadership, counselling and Jewish education skills, all of which enhance student connections with their community on their return to the UK.
While at university, there is a network of eight Tribe Campus Ambassadors across the UK who run weekly events for current students including guest speakers and debates, Friday night dinners and graduation parties.
