This week over 70 people attended the official opening of the Tribe Youth Zone at Richmond United Synagogue. This new youth space has been made possible by the hard work of many people including the kids of the community who helped to paint and decorate it.

At the launch families came from Croydon, Kingston, and North Surrey to part take in the grand opening along with Richmond Families. Activities at the launch included Karaoke, mug decorating, baking cookies, table tennis, games, roasting marshmallows and raffle. Youth from different communities were able to meet and get to know each other.

The new Tribe Youth Zone will give the youth of the community a space to hold events and socialise with their peers. It contains a new television, which can be used for presentations and movie nights. The large board table converts easily into a pool/ air hockey/ table tennis table.

“We can’t wait to start having Tribe youth nights,” said Ilana El-Baz, one of the community’s youth. “It makes me feel very proud to have done something so nice for our Community.”

Rabbi Hughes and Ben Vos spoke at the opening ceremony whilst Kim El-Baz, who managed the entire renovation project, had the honour of cutting the ribbon to the new Zone.

Ben Vos, Tribe Community Liaison Manager, commented: “Tribe are really proud to be able to help our US communities create dedicated, safe places for their youth to meet and have fun. The youth who helped decorate have done a fantastic job and it’s wonderful to see an old, disused room become vibrant again.”

The next events to be held in the Tribe Youth Zone are a Guy Fawkes Night celebration and a Chanukah disco party.
