This weekend Tribe’s new Aleph Learning Centre NW, based in Bushey Synagogue, opened its doors to over 70 children for their first multi community Cheder experience. The initiative, supported by the United Synagogue’s Living & Learning Department, brings together children from Bushey, Pinner and Stanmore & Canons Park United Synagogues as well as from the surrounding communities on Sunday mornings.

This exciting new learning centre offers a wide range of learning with more lessons based outside of the classroom than in a traditional Cheder. With a higher number of primary school aged children in the area mixing and meeting, the centre also provides more social opportunities for students than they had previously. The Aleph model was developed and based on the highly successful Aleph Learning Centre based in Hampstead Garden Suburb United Synagogue.

The learning centre is also open to children from other US synagogues who would like to join. All of the students were given a Tribe backpack, complete with a pencil case and stationery to get them started for the first Cheder term of the year.

Commenting on the opening of the new Aleph Centre, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Living and Learning Director and Principal of the new centre said: “We are thrilled at the high number of children who joined the Aleph Learning Centre for its inaugural week at Bushey Synagogue. The Centre is an extremely exciting US initiative which will benefit the children in our United Synagogue communities and provide them with an inspirational Jewish education.”
