On Shabbat 7th March over 80 gap year students made their way to Kibbutz Gal’on to join Tribe Israel for their annual ‘Gap Year’ Shabbaton.

Participants came from many different institutions including BA Lahava, BA Torani, Midreshet HaRova, HaKotel, Netiv, Derech, Midreshet Lindenbaum, Yeud, Shalavim, Eretz Hazvi, Gush and more.

They were joined by David Collins, Tribe Executive Director, and Tribe Central Rabbi, Rabbi Yisroel Binstock as well as Rabbi Gideon Sylvester, Tribe’s Israel Rabbi.

The atmosphere at the Shabbaton was relaxed and fun but included a deeper message for the participants about the needs of their community back home in the UK.  Tribe emphasized the importance of them using their Israel and Jewish learning experiences to help educate the next generation of UK Jewish children.

Gaby Godfrey, Head of Tribe Israel, said, “I was so impressed with this year group. Everyone seemed excited about the potential they have, once they return to the UK at the end of the year, to give back to the communities they come from. I look forward to hearing about their achievements in the future.”

Luis Herzsaft, who is studying at Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh said, “Thank you so much to everyone at Tribe for running an amazing Shabbaton. I have spent the majority of my year so far learning for my own benefit, but now I have learnt how I can also use this learning to benefit others through being a Tribe Leader in my home community. I look forward to applying what I’ve learnt when I return to the UK later in the year.”
