On Sunday 11th May, Year 6 embarked on a Jewish Heritage discovery trip to the Jewish Museum in Camden. The trip was a joint Cheder inventive with students from Hampstead Garden Suburb - the Aleph Learning Centre, St Johns Wood, Mill Hill, Woodside Park and South Hampstead participating.

The first event scheduled for the morning was a powerful presentation, in the Education Auditorium, by Nic Abery. She relayed how every item in the museum tells a story of a different era and perhaps even of a far-away continent.

The collections in the museum bring to life how Jewish life might have been experienced in times gone by. Afterwards, the students were given a quiz sheet with various items to find as well as some questions to answer. The children spread out in small groups throughout the museum to begin their quest. Once completed, the students were able to independently tour and enjoy the exhibition of the Jewish contribution in World War I.

At the conclusion of the trip a Jewish Heritage project was launched. Over the course of the next few weeks, students will engage in their own research as they explore their own histories. They will use a family-owned item or a piece of Judaica to tell the story of how their heritage is meaningful to them today.

The children enjoyed meeting and mingling with students from other Chedarim, and expressed demand to have more inter-cheder events incorporated into the Sunday programme.
