Last Sunday over 60 delegates from United Synagogue Chadarim (cheders) who teach close to 1,000 cheder pupils attended the Tribe Cheder Conference.

The keynote address was given by Rabbi David Meyer, Executive Director of PaJeS (Partnerships for Jewish Schools), who spoke about the importance of 'Learning to Love, Loving to Learn' and inspired the audience to engage and motivate their pupils.

The attendees were then addressed by a fantastic array of speakers including Rebbetzen Freda Kaplan of Hampstead Garden Suburb US, Rabbi Lister of Edgware US, Kim Miller, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) at Independent Jewish Day School. These sessions included behaviour management training, creativity and multi-sensory learning in the classroom, engaging pupils using different learning methods, and answering challenging questions.

Tribe’s Children’s Education Manager, Chayli Fehler, who organised the event said: “The conference is aimed at inspiring Cheder staff and offering them practical and useful training sessions to enhance their classes. We want to ensure that in the short time pupils are at Cheder they receive a substantial level of thorough and relevant Jewish education, using exciting hands-on methods".
