Full Time Rabbi - Birmingham Central
Jobs Closing Date:
Friday 17th March 2017

Birmingham Central United Synagogue is a friendly, welcoming and inclusive leading orthodox congregation, established over 130 years ago, where everyone is made to feel comfortable, whatever their background or level of observance.

Our ‘state of the art’ synagogue, banqueting suite, community deli, and mikvah are on site in Edgbaston, close to major road and rail links. We offer rabbinic accommodation in a modern house within a few minutes’ walk of the shul.

The new Rabbi will inspire, enthuse, and motivate individuals as they connect with and contribute to our diverse community. Applicants will have exceptional ‘people skills’, be happy to have an open home policy and be ready to reach out to all ages while promoting orthodox Jewish practice. Continuing our tradition, the Rabbi will play a full part in enhancing the musical and cultural aspects of our religious services.

Reflecting Birmingham Central’s modern and orthodox outlook, the successful candidate is likely to have a secular degree, and essentially must hold a Semicha acceptable to the Office of the Chief Rabbi. To fulfil the role, applicants should be self-motivated, energetic, well organised, and conscientious team players. The Rabbi will also be required to leyn competently on a weekly basis and lead religious services as required.

Birmingham is home to one of the largest Jewish student populations in the UK and hosts a full-time Jewish Student Chaplain as well as other campus Rabbanim. During term-time, the students make a valuable contribution to our community.

We would like to hear from applicants who would be prepared to commit and be instrumental in cultivating relationships with young adults and new members to further develop the Jewish life in Birmingham as well as engaging with the existing membership.
