ISRAELI AMBASSADOR SAYS "UK JEWISH STUDENTS ARE ON THE FRONT LINE"

The Israeli Ambassador heaped praise on UK Jewish students as they gathered to hear him speak at a special Friday night dinner hosted by Tribe, University Jewish Chaplaincy (UJC) and UJS.

Over 200 people travelled from across the UK - North, East South and West - to attend this hugely successful event held at Finchley United Synagogue.

In his keynote speech Ron Prosor, the Israeli Ambassador, said that the UK was now at the heart of the world's anti-Israel campaigns and that, "UK Jewish students are on the front line". He went on to thank the students for supporting the people of Israel at such a difficult time and for all their hard work on campus.

Speaking after the event, Donna Turnberg, Tribe Campus Ambassador for Manchester, said; "Jewish students are under more pressure than ever before. It was fantastic to hear the Israeli Ambassador speak and hear his appreciation for all that we do for Israel on campus."

The Israeli Ambassador went on to remind all the dinner guests why the fight is worth fighting - reinforcing the students' sense of purpose and pride in their activism on campus. He also gave dinner guests a short briefing on the coming months in Israel.

One of the eight chaplaincy couples who took part in the event, Rabbi Simon and Sarah Mandel Cambridge Chaplains said: "We really enjoyed the student Friday night - it was a wonderful opportunity to see our Cambridge students during the holidays. It was also great to see the other chaplains and meet some of their students too."

UJS Chair, Adam Pike, added: "The Friday Night dinner was a great start to the UJS Big Weekend and was a great opportunity for Jewish students to share a Friday night with Ambassador of Israel. The affection and bond between Jewish students and the people of Israel was evident."

Following on from the Ambassador, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Executive Director of Tribe, spoke. In his talk he thanked all involved and said: "This event is an amazing example how Tribe works so well in partnership with other organisations on campus, such as UJS and UJC."
