YOUNG ADULTS VOTE WITH THEIR FEET FOR THE US
An amazing response to the innovative Tribe Community Membership programme (TCM) has seen nearly 1,000 young people sign up to this ground-breaking United Synagogue project.
Launched 4 years ago, TCM is a scheme for singles aged 21 -- 30 organised by Tribe (The Young United Synagogue) and seeks to attract members from the younger end of the community. TCM offers full membership of local synagogues (including burial rights) as well as providing extra benefits such as events discounts and special TCM-only activities, which is all available for just £5 a month.
Commenting on TCM's success, Rabbi Andrew Shaw, Executive Director of Tribe, said:
"It is a myth that the United Synagogue is an old fashioned organisation with nothing to appeal to young adults. Over the years we have worked hard to engage with young people and we have been met with extraordinary success. The United Synagogue is hugely proud of the TCM programme and shows that the US really does have something to offer every generation, both young and old."
With the 1,000th TCM member expected to join within the next couple of months, Tribe is making an exciting offer. The 1,000th new member will be given a free place for them to attend the TCM Poland trip later this year. In addition a £500 donation will be made to the community they join to support youth and young people activities in their local synagogue.
Deborah Sherman, TCM member of Kenton Synagogue said: "I think it's a great idea to mark the 1,000th member of TCM with an offer that benefits them as an individual as well as their local community. We are delighted that so many young people are responding to this innovative scheme".
