TRIBE'S MOVING VISIT TO POLAND

Following the success of last years programme, Tribe expanded their Poland trip taking a group of 42 on their second trip, which returned this week. The group was led by Tribe's Executive Director, Rabbi Andrew Shaw and spent five 'moving and inspirational days' touring the Jewish and historical sites across the country.

The group visited the grave of Rabbi Noam Elimelech in Lizhensk and the prominent 16th century scholar, the Remah, who later became the Chief Rabbi of Krakow. They also attended the Isaak Synagogue, a Synagogue no longer in use and opened for the Tribe group, for them to welcome in Shabbat with a spiritual Kabbalat Shabbat service.

The group also visited infamous sites in Warsaw, Lublin and Majdanek, before spending the final day in quiet reflection at Auschwitz-Birkenau, where the group donned tefillin and prayed Shacharit under the watchtower which culminated in a memorial service at the former extermination camp.

Avi Friedmann, trip coordinator and Tribe Teens Executive, commented: "This trip has been a moving and inspirational affirmation of our survival. It was powerful to see how moved the participants were by what they saw and I'm proud of the way they walked defiantly out of Auschwitz, singing the songs from our heritage and wrapped in Israeli flags."

Gemma Ginsberg, participant on the Poland trip, said: "The Tribe Poland trip was at times an emotional rollercoaster yet the group left thoroughly uplifted. It was an eye opening, life changing experience, making me prouder than ever to be Jewish. Thanks to an amazing team of Tribe staff who provided me with an unforgettable experience that will stay with me forever."
